A premium trim-work station decision
Shortlist the Kapex when its adjustments and station design earn their cost
The US KS 120 REB, item 575306, is our Festool shortlist choice when frequent trim work makes rail-forward layout, fine bevel adjustment and a planned extraction system useful. Check those workflow benefits against the complete station cost before ordering.
For occasional projects, compare the Bosch CM10GD and DeWalt DWS780 in the table. For a new Kapex station, also price the 579556 starter set against buying the saw, support and hose separately.
The current US Festool Kapex KS 120 REB is a corded sliding compound miter saw with a 260 mm blade. It is a premium purchase whose value depends on the work around it: the adjustment routine, stock support, extraction connection and frequency of use. A high price does not by itself establish better joints.
This review now focuses on US item 575306 and its verified Amazon offer, checked in October 2026. We retain the existing Kapex review URL and replace the older buying link. The specification and package information below belong to the current REB configuration.
Good reasons to consider it
- Rail-forward configuration for a constrained station
- Fine bevel adjustment with an upfront rotary control
- Dual lasers indicate the cut area
- Current US saw and named starter-set offers can be compared separately
What to weigh before buying
- Premium saw and accessory cost
- A 260 mm blade is not a generic 10-inch replacement
- Extractor and support need their own purchase plan
- No independent precision or dust-capture measurements in this review
Where the premium makes practical sense
Start with the work you repeat. If you routinely set compound trim angles, move a cutting station into confined spaces or already use suitable Festool extraction equipment, the Kapex’s controls and layout deserve a closer comparison. If you need a few straightforward crosscuts each month, those features may not earn the complete cost.
Think about the steps that slow your actual work: reaching a control, checking an angle, positioning a piece or managing a hose. A useful premium feature removes a recurring limitation. Buying a more expensive label without identifying that limitation is a weak reason to change a working saw.
Our recommendation is therefore conditional. Shortlist the current REB model for its documented adjustment and station features, then compare the alternatives using the same project requirements. We have not established an independent accuracy winner through a standardized cutting test.
Rail-forward design changes bench planning
The guide arrangement puts the rails forward, and Festool describes the resulting compact footprint for work near a wall. That can be relevant when a conventional slider’s rear travel interferes with the intended station.
Measure the whole setup: workpiece path, permitted head movement, bevel positions, hose connection and the space needed to use the controls. A smaller rear footprint does not remove the need for stock support or operator access. Check whether a dust hood or nearby shelf changes those clearances.
For a mobile station, plan the transport locks and carrying method in the manual. The old article’s 21.5-pound claim should not be used for handling decisions. Published manufacturer weight figures differ across the current page, so this review does not label one of them as a verified ready-to-carry weight.
Dual lasers and fine bevel adjustment are setup tools
Festool documents dual lasers that define the material removed by the cut, plus a fine bevel adjustment control. Those features can help you position stock and make a controlled angle adjustment. They do not measure the completed joint or guarantee that every setup is correct.
Mark the waste side and account for the kerf. Make a suitable scrap cut and verify the angle and finish required for the project. Recheck when changing a blade, setting an angle or moving the station.
For compound trim, write down the orientation and the required miter and bevel before starting a batch. Compare how clearly you can see the scales and operate the controls in the actual station. The benefit is a practical adjustment routine rather than an assumed universal precision advantage.
Use the exact capacity chart for the piece
The Kapex’s special cutting position and molding capacities need their own setup checks. Festool lists up to 6-5/8-inch crown in the specified nested arrangement. That figure is not a general height limit for every wide board or bevel setting.
Flat stock, upright baseboard and nested crown use different positions. Check the paired height and width at the required angles in the exact manual. Do not combine the largest width from one arrangement with the largest height from another.
If your main project needs a 12-inch sliding configuration, compare the DWS780 directly. If stock fits a 10-inch glide saw and the bench layout is central, compare the CM10GD. Blade diameter alone does not decide which saw’s cutting envelope fits a particular joint.
The blade is 260 mm, not an ordinary 10-inch substitute
The current Kapex uses a 10-1/4-inch, 260 mm blade with a 30 mm bore. The manufacturer manual specifies approved blades for the tool. Do not buy a generic 10-inch blade merely because the older review described the saw that way.
Match diameter, bore, kerf, speed and application to the exact instructions. A compatible-looking hole or similar tooth count is not a complete blade approval. The listed universal wood blade is a starting package item, not proof that it is the ideal choice for every finish or material.
For a new project, check a sample before committing finished stock. Resolve an unsuitable blade or setup issue first. Variable speed is a documented control, but changing a dial does not authorize an otherwise unsuitable blade or material.
Price the extraction and support system with the saw
The dust connection is documented for 27 and 36 mm arrangements, and Festool emphasizes its 36 mm setup in the extraction description. Verify the hose and extractor connection for the planned system rather than choosing an adapter by appearance.
The starter set compared below includes a hose, but a hose is not an extractor. Confirm whether you already have suitable extraction equipment and how its power and collection arrangement will work with the saw. Route the hose through the permitted head movement without pulling against the tool.
We do not repeat a promotional capture percentage as an independently measured result. Collection depends on the equipment, material and operation. Include work supports and the mounting arrangement in the same budget: a saw-only offer and a supported starter set are different purchases.

| Product and buying link | Choose for | Key distinction | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Festool Kapex KS 120 REB US saw, 575306 | Frequent trim work with a planned cutting and extraction station | Rail-forward layout, dual lasers and fine bevel adjustment | Saw package; stand, extensions and extractor are separate unless named |
| Festool 579556 Kapex starter set with UG stand | Building a new supported Kapex station | KS 120 REB saw, UG stand, extension wings and 36 mm hose | Confirm exact contents; dust extractor is not listed in the set |
| Bosch CM10GD 10-inch Dual-Bevel Glide saw | A corded station where glide layout and front controls matter | Articulated glide mechanism and upfront bevel controls | Check its own capacity chart and mounting arrangement |
| DeWalt DWS780 12-inch sliding miter saw | A corded 12-inch configuration for suitable larger stock | Dual-bevel slider with XPS cutline system | Check sliding clearance, exact capacity and seller package |
The starter set is a package for the same Kapex saw rather than a different cutting model. Bosch and DeWalt provide different layouts and blade sizes. Match your stock and setup requirements before comparing current totals.
Festool 579556 Kapex starter set with UG stand: Building a new supported Kapex station
Compare this named set when you need support and a hose along with the saw. Add the cost of suitable extraction equipment if you do not own it. Check the delivered contents and the stand’s operating requirements rather than assuming a bundle removes every setup decision.

Bosch CM10GD 10-inch Dual-Bevel Glide saw: A corded station where glide layout and front controls matter
The CM10GD offers a different approach to the station footprint and angle controls. Its 10-inch blade and capacity chart are not the Kapex specifications. Compare the stock and support arrangement, then decide whether the Festool package adds useful workflow features for the cost.
DeWalt DWS780 12-inch sliding miter saw: A corded 12-inch configuration for suitable larger stock
Compare the DWS780 when its cutting envelope and XPS positioning system fit the work. It has a different sliding layout and blade requirement. A larger diameter does not automatically improve every trim task, so compare the chart for the actual cutting orientation.
From delivery to a repeatable trim station
Check the package and model first
Confirm US item 575306 or the named US starter set against the delivered box and seller description. Inspect the blade, guard, clamp and controls using the exact manual. Resolve missing components or damage before cutting.
Read the supplied adjustment, blade and power instructions. Use the tool’s own identification for replacement parts rather than ordering by a generic Kapex name.
Support, connect and verify
Mount the saw using the approved arrangement and provide suitable support for the stock. Check the fence, clamp, hose route and full intended movement with power isolated as directed.
Follow the required operating sequence and hand-position rules. Verify a sample cut on scrap before finished material. Recheck when changing a blade, angle or station arrangement.
Inspect and maintain the working setup
Isolate power before cleaning or blade changes. Remove accumulated debris using the prescribed method and inspect the blade, guard and extraction hood for damage. Do not modify contact surfaces or lubricate parts using instructions for another saw.
Use the transport locks and designated carrying points. Keep the lead and hose protected, and check a sample after relocation.
Kapex KS 120 REB questions before buying
Which current US model does this review cover?
The KS 120 REB, US item 575306. The comparison also includes US starter set 579556.
Is it a standard 10-inch saw?
No. Its documented blade diameter is 10-1/4 inches, or 260 mm, with a 30 mm bore. Use the exact approved blade specification.
Does the saw-only offer include a stand or extractor?
Do not assume so. The selected offer is the saw package. The named starter set lists a stand, wings and hose, but not a dust extractor.
Do the lasers guarantee accurate joints?
No. They help indicate the cut area. Confirm the angle, length and finish on suitable scrap before continuing a batch.
Should occasional users choose it automatically?
No. Compare the complete cost with the features your projects actually need. A functioning suitable saw does not need replacing solely because a premium model exists.
Have you tested its dust collection or precision?
No. This is a researched editorial review of documented features and exact buying options, not an independent performance test.
Choose the Kapex for useful workflow benefits
Shortlist the KS 120 REB when its rail-forward arrangement, fine adjustment and planned extraction setup improve work you perform regularly. Price the saw and starter set as complete working packages.
Compare Bosch and DeWalt when their layouts and capacity meet the same needs at a more suitable total cost. The right purchase is the station that helps you make the intended parts consistently.
