Important Features of Craftsman 10″ Single Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw

Durable and Hard-Wearing

This sliding compound miter saw is built to last and would remain functional for many years to come. Recently, I had it mounted onto a DEWALT folding table and the angles have remained true with no rough edges or mechanical faults developing.

Though the laser light can occasionally get obscured by layers of saw spray, you can easily run some fresh, wet pressure-treated timber pieces through it. Personally, I prefer air dusting soon after completing a job so that it can be ready the next time I need the machine.

Being such a durable tool, I have a feeling that it outlasts me and probably my 2-year old will also use it when he becomes an adult. It’s a very nice saw that starts well and maintains power during operation, the machine runs smooth and its guard doesn’t bother users when switched on.

Versatility

The Craftsman 10” Miter Saw is also incredible. I’m a hands-on person who does a lot of woodwork making doors, tables, tabletops, and custom pieces amongst other items. This tool has powered through all these tasks flawlessly.

Though the best part about it and why I bought it is because of the sliding adjustment feature. I’ve never come across a saw with this function and it really interested me, in fact, I’m currently questioning how I even got anything done in the past without it.

It’s really worth it especially if you run into multiple situations in carpentry, such as those where having only one or two inches left or flipping the fixture over and re-measuring can help finish a cut. With this tool, you can literally take it out and complete these different tasks in a very short period. It can be a huge time-saver.

Laser light for better clarity

The laser beam is a new feature that I like about this product. Previous saws lacked it and were thus unreliable for making sharp cuts, Craftsman is accurate and functions just as well as the sliding arms. There are also bells and whistles on the machine for timing, make this saw one of the most feature-rich toolsets available yet.

High quality construction

Though this item was listed online as a single bevel miter saw, I honestly think that it’s double-bevel. It works exceptionally well plus the slider is also very smooth. In general, the construction feels very impressive and the saw has plenty of power to match as well.

Instruction and Guidelines:

-The moving motor carriages of this machine make it very user-friendly for all types of tasks, they have the ability to crosscut a 2×12 or 4×4 cut in just one pass. They will even cut thicker stocks of up to 8-inches wide when set on the maximum compound bevel angles. Similarly, when cutting is done, it’s relatively easy to lift and also transport from one job site to the next.

-Since they collect a lot of dust during operation, this machine can be connected to an empty shop vacuum or dust extractor for cleaning. The saw’s standard dust port size also means that you can use it on almost all types of vacuums.

Critics of Craftsman 10″ Single Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw

I. The main issue I have with this miter saw is the saw-dust that usually builds up on the rails/guides, these often prevent the blade from falling back or retracting, hence making the cut incomplete all the way into the wood. This leaves minimal space to create little splinters. Personally, when the sawdust accumulates I usually take my fingers and use them to clean around the rails after every use. I also find the laser somewhat ineffective, it’s not bright enough to clearly see through and outside.

II. Another area of contention is the length of the slides. It couldn’t slice all the way through the wood and we actually had to glue it up, which we were pretty sure it could handle. I think if the slider had been only 2-inches longer it would have worked much better.

Editor’s Verdict

I can conclude by saying that the Craftsman 10” Single Bevel saw is of great quality, and is also shipped fast by the manufacturers upon purchase. My family was quite pleased with it, the machine has a carrier bag but is designed not to catch most of the dust. Still, this is not such a major issue.

  1. How can you believe it’s a double bevel, which means the saw head will tilt left and right up to 45-50 degrees? Unless you are doing crown molding every day you don’t need a double bevel miter saw. It is still possible to cut crown molding it’s a single bevel, just takes creativity to figure out the angles.

  2. I have owned this saw for years. I am certain that I never got an accurate cut out of this saw. If I did, then it was only the first couple cuts. The red holder piece on the bottom that locks the saw into common angles like 90, 45 etc. is plastic and becomes deformed simply by applying torque to the hand screw which secures it. Once it becomes deformed your only option is to cut it off or find a way to keep it disengaged. (I put a zip tie on the handle, drilled a hole through the whole mess, and put a nail in it as a keeper). What’s more, the pressure screw that holds your angle is terminated in teflon or another hard plastic, which ruins your angle as you tighten it. It is nearly impossible to get even within 1/32 over 6 inches… which for crown mounding fine, caulk goes a long way -but don’t expect to be making boxes or making tight tolerances for your boat deck with this saw.
